17/04/10
The North cricket season opened on Saturday when the Group stages of the
20/20 competition was played.
Buckie hosted Group 3 with Keith and Huntly making up the Group.
In the first game Buckie played Keith with the visitors opting to bat after winning the toss. Good knocks from G Dey 30, W Hawes 24, M McKay 21 plus a generous helping of wides saw Keith finish their 20 overs
with a total of 150 for 7. Duane Creamer 3 for 33 and Sean McDonald 2 for 23 were the most successful Buckie bowlers.
The Buckie innings never got going and after 8.2 overs they had been
dismissed for just 38. Keith's new find from Northamptonshire Will Hawes, 5
for 15 and skipper Neil Stables, 4 for 18 did the damage helped by some
woefil batting.
In the second game Keith played Huntly and the young Huntly side just
secured victory in a nail biting last over. Keith had been dismissed for 97
and Huntly had 8 wickets down before reaching the winning target.
The final game saw Buckie bat first and it was a much improved display
setting Huntly a score of 137 for 5 to beat. Anthony Wilson 46 not out and
Jonathon Corsie 26 were the top scorers while Liam Ferguson 2 for 16 was the
pick of the Huntly attack.
Huntly have some good young players and none better than Calum Howard who
hit an unbeaten 69 to secure another last over victory for the loss of 4
wickets.
Huntly therefore go through to the semi final to be played at Elgin on
Sunday.

Buckie Cricket Club opened their Macallan league programme at Forres and
showed that they had got over last weeks poor showing in the 20/20,
returning with a surprisingly easy 106 runs victory.
Daniel Walls set the tone when he hit the first ball of the game for 6 and
repeated the feat off the first ball of the second over. With the
score at 28 Walls was bowled by Ross for 23. Anthony Wilson kept things
moving until he was out also having scored 23. With the score at 96
Duane Creamer and Mark Tait found themselves at the same end and it was
the latter who made his way back to the pavilion having contributed
13.
With 30 overs gone the score read 100 for 3 and with Jonathon Corsie now
at the crease a big score was anticipated. However at 134 Corsie
was bowled by Ross for 22.
Duane Creamer meantime had kept one end secure and when he was eventually
the eighth wicket to fall, in the penultimate over, he had scored
his maiden half century and seen the score reach 154. After the 45 overs
were up the final total stood at 159 for 9.
Tony farr with 3 for 33 was the most successful home bowler.
From as early as the fifth over of the Forres innings the outcome was
never in doubt with 3 wickets down and their main batsmen Angus Farr and
Neil McGrath gone. It was just a question of how long it would be before
it was all over. The answer was 29.4 overs and a total of 53.
All the Buckie bowlers took wickets with Barry Newlands claiming 3,
Anthony Wilson, Calum Hart and Duane Creamer 2 each, and the remaining one
by Mark Tait.
They were superbly backed up by their fielders with Jonathon Corsie taking
4 slip catches, Wicket-keeper Daniel Walls 2 and Mattie McIntosh with
the one which started the Forres demise.
Thanks to Louis Fish and Chips for sponsoring the match ball.

Ross County were the first visitors of the season to come to Linzee
Gordon Park on Macallan League business and found Buckie were less than hospitable hosts and left empty handed.
Daniel Walls and Jonathon Corsie got Buckie off to a flyer and 76 runs
were on the board before they got their calling all wrong and Walls was
out for 46.
Anthony Wilson joined Corsie at the crease and they kept the scoreboard
ticking along nicely until at 122 Corsie departed having scored 48.
Wilson was in fine form and although some partners came and went he
stayed until the end with 78 runs to his name and a total of 206 for 6 to
defend.
Ross County began their innings in positive fashion and their top four
batsmen went for their shots and punished any loose delivery. It took two
stunning catches by Corsie off his own bowling to stop the momentum and
swing the game in Buckie's favour. County then fell behind the asking
rate and wickets went down at regular intervals.
Young Adam Wood was given his chance with the ball and he grabbed it with
both hands taking 4 wickets for 27. Corsie also finished with 4 wickets
while Wilson and Calum Hart claimed 1 wicket each.
The Ross innings ended on 138 with Mark Watson their top scorer with 41.

Buckie C C kept up their good start to the league campaign with a convincing win over Elgin at Cooper Park on Saturday.
Batting first the Buckie batsmen found the Elgin bowling tight at the start and it was into the fifth over before a run was put on the board. The bowling remained that way for 22 overs, after which the score was 47 for the loss of D. Walls 15, D. Creamer 3 and A. Wilson 17.
C. Hart and B. Newlands made brief appearances at the crease before Jonathon Corsie found a partner to stay with him in the form of Eadie Walls. Together they added 90 for the sixth wicket and when
Corsie was eventually bowled the scoreboard read 169 for 6. It was another fine innings by the Buckie captain and he was just 7 runs short of his century when he was out.
Walls was there at the end unbeaten on 22 and the final total of 174 for 6 was more than seemed likely at several times during the innings.
A. Hindes was the best of the Elgin bowlers taking 3 for 27 and although H Gerrard finished with figures of 2 for 46, his early spell with the ball cost only 6 runs from 7 overs and included a wicket.
Elgin got off to the worst possible start losing 2 wickets with only 8 runs scored. M. Hastie and D. Fairgrieve added 23 for the 3rd wicket but the departure of Hastie for 15 saw Elgin on the slippery slope.
Three more wickets fell during a spell of six consecutive maiden overs and when the final wicket went down, the home side had scored just 56.
All the Buckie bowlers acquitted themselves well with Anthony Wilson, 4 for 18, returning the best figures. Barry Newlands claimed the wickets of both openers, and Calum Hart took 2 wickets for only 1 run. Young Adam Wood also took a wicket with a run out making up the ten.
The match ball was kindly sponsored by Paul Munch, Post Office.
Buckie are due to play RAF Kinloss on Saturday, but the airmen's late withdrawal from the league means a free day for the first XI. On Thursday evening Buckie will play Gordonstoun on the School's excellent grass wicket. The match ball for this game is sponsored by Michael Flett.

Buckie kept up their good start to the season with a win over old
adversaries Huntly in a Macallan League Cup Group B game at Linzee Gordon Park on Saturday.
However they did not start too well in this game, with Daniel Walls and
Anthony Wilson back in the pavilion and only 9 runs on the board. Ryan Wood and Jonathon Corsie staged a mini revival reaching 34 before Wood was bowled by Liam Thom for 10. This was followed 5 runs later with the
dismissal of Calum Hart for 0.
Making a welcome first appearance of the season Tahair Shakeel joined
Corsie and together they added 47 for the fifth wicket at which point Corsie departed having contributed 46.
Neil Duthie then partnered Shakeel at the crease and Shakeel after a
steady start was now beginning to open his shoulders and 134 was on the
scoreboard when Jordan Thom ended the innings of Duthie for 13.
Shakeel dominated the remainder of the innings and had scored an unbeaten 71, and when the 30 overs had been completed Buckie had reached a very respectable total of 174 for 7.
For Huntly brothers Liam and Jordan Thom each claimed 2 wickets with
Brian Mearns, Liam Forsyth and Jack Mitchell taking 1 apiece.
Huntly responded as if they were up for the challenge and 33 runs were on the board after 6 overs for the loss of 2 wickets. Jack Mitchell and Jordan Thom had their sights set on a Huntly victory when they added 63
for the third wicket.
It was the introduction of Adam Wood into the attack that turned the game
in Buckie's favour. In his first over he had Thom caught and bowled for 18
and in his next over he removed the dangerous Mitchell with the help of a
good catch by Neil Duthie. The Huntly batsman had scored an impressive 41.
With the addition of only 1 run Corsie removed both S Muir and L Forsyth
and of the remaining batsmen only veteran Brian Mearns looked capable of scoring.
He was the final wicket to go down with the total at 133 and was the
fourth victim for Calum Hart who cleaned up the tail with impressive figures
of 4 for 4.J Corsie and A Wood finished with 2 wickets each while the early
breakthrough was made by Anthony Wilson and Barry Newlands.
A word too for wicketkeeper Daniel Walls who, for the second game in a
row took 3 catches.

Buckie Vs Highland
Away
05/06/10
On Saturday, Buckie’s First XI travelled to Inverness to take on Highland Cricket Club in a match sponsored by Planwell Roofing Supplies Ltd. Buckie intended on continuing their 100% record in the league after the disappointment of last week’s abandoned fixture at Nairn. Buckie were to bat first on what started out as a beautiful afternoon.
Buckie started well with the returning Duane Creamer and Daniel Walls putting on 22 before the first wicket with Creamer adjudged to be lbw to R. Nixon. This brought Corsie to the crease in what would be a match changing partnership. The pair started out on the quest for runs and brought up Buckie’s 50 in the 17th over and the 100 in the 30th over with both batsmen passing 50. This partnership was even more impressive given that the Highland bowling attack only gave away 5 extras throughout the entire innings. It wasn’t until the 32nd over that Highland made the break through with Walls going for a big shot and being caught by Nixon of the bowling of Paul. By this point Walls had amassed 64 runs and built a partnership with Corsie that was worth 93. Hart joined Corsie at the crease and they continued where the second wicket partnership had left off and increased the run rate with a partnership of 62 when Hart was caught by Nixon off Crabtree for 22. Newlands was next in and contributed 8 before R. Wood was last in to see of the final few balls. While everyone else fell, Corsie again stood strong with a fantastic unbeaten knock of 84 which lasted 38 over’s and set Buckie on their way to a final total of 192. Pick of the Buckie batsmen are Daniel Walls with 64 and John Corsie with an unbeaten 84 and J. Crabtree finished with figures of 2 for 47 off 12 to lead the Highland attack.
This seemed like a good target for Buckie’s bowlers to defend and the players took to the field in a positive mood. Highland started brightly with 30 coming of the first 5 over’s before the first wicket fell. Crabtree was out lbw to Newlands to what seemed a harsh decision. Nixon was still at the crease and was playing with a real attacking intent hitting 4 fours and a six in a knock of 31 before he was next to fall being caught by Corsie of the bowling of Hart trying another big shot. Catto and Francis were now at the crease for Highland and they set about chasing the target set. They continued the steady gain of runs creeping the total to 100 in the 24th over. As the hundred came up Creamer struck twice removing both Catto and Francis for 26 each with the first caught by Newlands in the deep and the later being clean bowled. This opened the flood gates for Buckie with R. Cameron being bowled out for 14 by Newlands and then Paul being run out of the very next ball for 0. K. Cameron and Girhair set about rebuilding the innings but only acquired 12 more runs before Cameron became Creamers 3rd wicket caught by Widdirington. This left 3 wickets to capture and they came at the expensive of only another 18 runs with Girhair bowled by Newlands, Goodwin caught behind by Walls of the bowling of Hart and Newlands claiming the last wicket of Outram for 1.
It was a fantastic effort by the Buckie team to bowl out a strong Highland batting order for 160 with Newlands and Creamer being the main threats with figures of 4-34 and 3-40 respectively. Pick of the Highland batting line up has to be Nixon with a quick fire 31 that could have taken the game away from Buckie.
Next week Buckie entertain Keith in a Macallan league fixture with the match ball kindly sponsored by James Jappy. Let’s hope Buckie can continue their fantastic run.
Ryan Wood
Buckie had neighbours Keith as visitors to Linzee Gordon Park on Saturday
and on winning the toss they elected to bat.
Duane Creamer and Daniel Walls opened the innings and against the
accurate bowling of Will Hawes and Neil Stables they started cautiously.
However, with the first ball of the 11th over and with the score reading
31, Hawes made the breakthrough when he bowled Creamer for 8.
Anthony Wilson joined Walls in the middle and after taking a few overs to
size up the bowling he upped the tempo. In a second wicket stand of 76 he contributed 56, before being caught by Hawes of the bowling of Thmrie.
The introduction of skipper Jonathon Corsie to partner Walls saw the scoring rate increase dramatically, but for once the captain was not the
dominant force. Walls was now batting confidently and runs flowed freely from the bat. Together they added 106 runs before Corsie was bowled by
Neil Stables for 37. When the 45 overs were up Buckie had reached 221 for 3 and Walls had scored a fine unbeaten 104, which include 3 sixes and 5
fours.
6 overs into the Keith innings and the game was over as a contest. Their
4 top batsmen had departed and only 7 runs had been scored. Barry Newlands took 3 of the wickets, having Neil Stables caught close to the
wicket by Ryan Wood before disturbing the timbers behind Neil Green and Jim
McWilliam. In between times Anthony Wilson had claimed the prize wicket
of Graham Day. Will Hawes, S Thmrie and Mark Webster all batted sensibly and enabled Keith to a repectable total of 82. Young Jordon Squire looks
a real batsman in the making and played some text book cover drives.
Barry Newlands ended with figures of 4 for 21, Duane Creamer took 3 for
19, and Jonathon Corsie finished off the match taking 2 for 6.
One department where both sides could improve is their fielding and
catching. Buckie in particular were guilty of putting a number of not too difficult chances on the floor.
Thanks to James Jappy, Painter, for sponsoring the match ball.
On Saturday it is cup duty and Buckie make the long trip to Fort William.
The match ball will be sponsored by Birnie Sutherland.
On Sunday Buckie will be at home to either Fochabers or Bon Accord in the
Quarter Final of the Small Clubs Cup and the match ball sponsor is Jonathon Corsie.

Buckie Vs Fort William
26/06/10
Home
Fort William were Saturday's visitors to Linzee Gordon Park and following the previous weeks cup defeat at home to Buckie, they could not have relished this league encounter, especially since they arrived with only 10 players.
On calling the toss correctly they elected to bat, but were soon in trouble, losing Goddard, bowled by Anthony
Wilson for 0. S Nagaiah showed that he was in an aggressive mood, charging down the wicket to every ball, but his brief stay at the crease ended when he edged the ball to Widdrington at slip who took a good catch off the bowling of Barry Newlands.
D Spence and P Farrell attempted to retrieve the situation but at 24, D Creamer held on to a skier from Spence to give Newlands a second wicket. A third wicket followed for Newlands when he bowled D M Duncan for 8, and the score reading 35 for 4.
P Farrell was looking the best of the Fort batsmen and he appeared to have found a partner to stay with him in D J Duncan. They had added 24 for the fifth wicket however, when Duncan departed, having found the safe hands of Wilson off the bowling of Calum Hart.
Hart then wasted little time in finishing off the innings, claiming another 4 wickets to end with the excellent
figures of 5 for 15.
P Farrell was the last wicket to fall, being the top scorer with 22 from a total of 69.
Duane Creamer and Daniel Walls set off in pursuit of the 70 runs required and had encountered little difficulty
in reaching 52. At this point however, Fort made the breakthrough when Creamer was bowled round his legs by S Nagaiah for 11.
Neil Duthie, 4 not out, was at the crease to see Walls finish the match with a 6, and a fine unbeaten innings of 46.
S Nagaiah claimed the only wicket to fall and his 5 overs, 2 of which were maidens, cost only 6 runs.

Buckie Vs Fochabers
03/07/10
Away
Buckie made the short trip to Fochabers on Saturday intent on keeping their 100% league record, while the home side were hoping to keep their unbeaten record- they have already drawn their match with RAF Lossiemouth.
Buckie as normal opted to bat first and it was evident early on that a total in excess of 200 might be required,
taking into consideration the ground conditions and the strength of the Fochabers batting line up.
However things went badly wrong for Buckie at the start and both openers, Daniel Walls and Jonathon Corsie found
themselves back in the pavilion with the score at 22. Both had been caught behind by wicket-keeper Richard
Constable, playing shots that neither can be proud of. Credit must also go to the Fochabers bowlers Adam
Stockwell, arguably the best opening bowler in the league, and Alan Petrie.
10 runs later Calum Hart was bowled by Petrie and at 52 Anthony Wilson dragged the ball on to his stumps, bowled
by Stuart Dalgarno.
Neil Duthie then dug himself in for the long haul and found a willing and more adventurous partner in Michael
Widdrington. The score had reached 89 when Widdrington gave Constable his third catch, off the bowling of Stockwell. Barry Newlands took over where Widdrington had left off and along with Duthie added another 47 for the 6th wicket.
Eadie Walls stay at the crease was brief, while Sean McDonald's was just marginally better. Mattie McIntosh
helped Duthie to add 17 runs unbeaten for the 9th wicket and enabled Buckie to finish on 160 for 8.
Neil Duthie was the lynch pin of the Buckie innings and his score of 46 not out was invaluable.
Petrie finished the best of the Fochabers bowlers taking 3 for 35 although Stockwell more than deserved his 2
for 29. Mike Fox chipped in with 2 wickets and Dalgarno claimed the other.
Although it was felt that Buckie had fallen short of what was maybe required, they were also grateful for posting
a total which gave their bowlers a chance.
The Fochabers innings followed a similar pattern to that of Buckie and the home side saw the early departure
of their two main batsmen Mark Stockwell and Milind Mehta.
After 15 overs Fochabers were 38 for 3, exactly the score Buckie had at the same stage in their innings.
It was to get worse for the home side as they slumped to 46 for 5 and their hopes now rested almost entirely
with Adam Stockwell. Mike Fox propped up one end while Stockwell did the scoring, and he gave a straightforward chance which was
put down and which could easily have proved costly.
Having put on 48 for the 6th wicket, the partnership was broken when Fox gave Duthie his second catch off the
bowling of Corsie. One run later Newlands clipped the stumps of Stockwell and Buckie breathed a huge sigh of
relief. The end was now in sight but Stockwell had caused a few worries for Buckie while compiling a good 40 runs.
Jonathon Corsie wrapped up the Fochabers innings taking 6 wickets for 11 runs from 8 overs, and the last 5
home wickets yielded just 8 runs for a final score of 102.
Anthony Wilson, Barry Newlands and Calum Hart, as well as Jonathon Corsie all played their part in the early
breakthrough which was to prove vital, as well as 7 different fielders who took some good and important catches.
In reality the 58 runs winning margin does not tell the whole story, but at the end of the day it was a very
satisfying result for Buckie.
Thanks to George Jappy for his very generous matchball sponsorship.

Buckie CC Vs R.A.F Lossiemouth
17/07/10
HOME
Buckie lost their first league defeat of the season when they lost by 34 runs to RAF Lossiemouth at Linzee Gordon Park on Saturday.
It was always going to be a difficult game for Buckie against a good Air Station side but to turn in their poorest showing with the bat for quite some time made it doubly difficult.
The game itself was not so much a game of two halves but more a a game of four quarters.
The first period belonged to Buckie after the airmen won the toss and opted to bat. After 27 overs Lossie had scored 52 runs and Woodward, Wolton,
Oliver and Dempster had all departed with only Woodward, 24, making any impression with the bat.
A Wilson had bowled his 12 overs, 6 of which were maidens for only 14 runs, while B Newlands and J Corsie had each bowled 7 overs at a cost of 21
and 11 runs respectively.
A Groves and N Langham then dug in and added 35 for the 5th wicket and when G Ouldfield replaced Groves another 25 runs were added for the 6th wicket.
Newlands returned to the attack and in his second over picked up the wickets of Langham 25, and Ouldfield 15, with successive balls. His next over
however saw him hit for 6,4,4,1, by R Harris who finished the innings 22 not out from just 13 deliveries.
The innings ended at 136 for 8 when M Patten was caught off the last ball of the 45th over. It was definately second quarter to the airmen although
Buckie did not help themselves by some slack fielding and dropping 4 relatively easy catches.
If Buckie's early bowling was considered good then the airmen's opening attack was even more impressive.
After 25 overs Buckie were 54 for 5 and without addition to the score they lost another 3 wickets and 3 more overs had passed.
D Wolton and S Boardman had done most of the damage with Boardman taking a blistering caught and bowled to claim the prize wicket of Corsie. That
was third quarter to Lossiemouth.
S McDonald 20 no, and M McIntosh 14, stayed together for 10 overs and put on 34 runs for the 9th wicket. Another 14 runs were added for the last wicket
which took the score to 102 and a bit of respectability. Buckie probably just shaded the final period but it was not enough to prevent their first
defeat.
D Wolton 4 for 14, and S Boardman 3 for 19, claimed most of the wickets but M Patten also played a major role bowling 12 overs, 6 maidens, 13 runs
and 2 wickets
Not a good result for Buckie, but possibly a good result for the league, and a deserved win for RAF Lossiemouth.
RAF Lossiemouth 136 for 8 (20) N Langham 25, C Woodward 24, R Harris 22no; B Newlands 3 for 41. Buckie 102 (6) S McDonald 20no; D Wolton 4 for 14,
S Boardman 3 for 19.

Buckie Vs Huntly
24/07/10
Home
Buckie returned to winning form at Huntly on Saturday with a comprehensive victory over a youthful home side.
Inserted after losing the toss, Buckie started cautiously, but gradually upped the tempo and after 18 overs 75 runs were on the board. It was at this
point that Huntly made the breakthrough when Duane Creamer was bowled by Lewis Paterson for 21. Daniel Walls reached his half century with a straight
hit for 6, but almost immediately was trapped lbw by Paterson.
Because of his age the young Huntly bowler is only allowed to bowl in 6 overs spells, and the strange thing was that he was not brought back into the
attack, since he was by far the best home bowler taking 2 for 10. The other Huntly bowlers would not wish to see their figures in print.
Anthony Wilson got into the groove after a slowish start and received good support, firstly from Calum Hart who scored 30 from a partnership of 69,
and then from Michael Widdrington who hit an unbeaten 31 from an unbroken stand of 68. The innings ended at 229 for 3 with Wilson scoring 56 not out.
The running between the wickets by Wilson, Hart and Widdrington was very good and was a lesson to openers Creamer and D Walls who made three's into
two's, two's into one's, and no run when a single could have been taken.
Huntly opened their innings with K Davies, one of only 2 senior players in the Huntly team and S Muir. Davies took an immediate shine to the bowling of
Wilson and hit 22 from the bowlers first 3 overs. In the tenth over and the score reading 41 Davies departed, much to the relief of the visitors, when
he gave a catch to Eadie Walls off the bowling of Barry Newlands after having scored 33.
2 runs later Newlands struck again bowling A Howard ,the other senior Huntly player for 0.
This brought to the middle, youngster Cameron Mann, who is probably no more than 13 years old, and he was to remain at the crease for 30 overs while
wickets tumbled all around him.
Buckie youngster Adam Wood bowled 8 overs and took 3 wickets for 11 runs and, but for wides, would have had figures of 3 for 6. Eadie Walls got a 5
overs spell and took 2 for 3 and Sean McDonald finished off the innings, grabbing the last two wickets.
Huntly No 11 Darren Morrison hit a quick 14 and the home score ended at 94 with young Mann 4 not out from 83 balls. It is probably unfair to compare
his knock with that of Buckie's Wilson who scored 56 from the same number of balls. The youngster showed good defensive technique which is a good base
from which to build.
Buckie's catching was much improved from the previous week with Wilson holding 3, Newlands taking a blinder, maybe more in self preservation than in
brilliance, and stand-in wicketkeeper Mike Widdrington took an excellent running diving catch.
One area in which Huntly did come out on top was the bowling of wides. From a Buckie score of 229 Huntly bowled only 6 wides, while Buckie bowled 16
in a Huntly total of 94.
Many thanks to James Newlands who kindly sponsored the match ball. On Saturday Buckie are at home to Northern Counties which is the last game before
the league splits into two groups. The machball for this game is generously sponsored by Willie Findlay.
