RAIDERS MARCH ONTO FINALS by Dropped Again

In their 1st cup match against 'The Teachers', Buckie Raiders Cricket Club ran out convincing winners.

Due the way the draw was made Buckie Raiders Cricket Club went into this match knowing that a win would secure them a place in the finals, but this was against The Teachers who they have yet to play in a league match, so they did not know much about the opposition. The toss was won by The Teachers and they selected to bat against what is normally a very strong bowling outfit. After an excellent first over from Calum who took 2 wicketts for 3 runs I thought the writing was on the wall but for the second game I was to be proved wrong. I am afraid that there is nothing else to report on the bowling other than The Teachers finished their 12 over's on a very respectable score of 75. This score included 9 wides and all the Buckie Raiders bowlers will have to tighten up their line to stop giving away these runs.

Enter now the Buckie Raiders batsmen Mike & Ryan. With very controlled stokes the score moved along at a pretty rapid pace. Under the rules of this competition Mike had to retire on 25 not out (he would have been allowed back to bat if needed), this brought in Mark and by the 10th over the score had reached 76 giving Buckie Raiders the win and a place in the finals. Ryan finishing on 18 not out and Mark 11 not out, a shame for the Buckie batsmen who did not get a knock but I am sure their time will come. The The Teachers bowling was not up to its best and 22 wides made the batters job that much easier but the runs still had to be made.

Mr Flett had better find the trophy cabinet key as I am sure that on Sunday 10th August (date to be confirmed) at Coopers Park will see Buckie Raiders lift their 1st piece of silverware. Who they play, not that it matters as they will win whoever they face, we do not yet know it is either Cottars Hoose (who they have beaten) or Elgin Colts (who they only just lost to on their first game).

A good all-round performance by a young side led by Mike who after each match grow in confidence.
