Flying start against Kinloss

This weekend saw the start of the Macallan North of Scotland Cricket Association cricket league, with Buckie as defending champions being drawn away to play RAF Kinloss sponsored by Cairnty Decorators Limited.

Buckie batted first in persistent drizzle which left many of the players wondering why the game was not played in the Caribbean. John Corsie opened the innings and showed continual good form from last season. He lost his first four partners in 27 overs with the score at 127 for 4, but this brought the big hitting Barry Newlands to the crease. It was here that the score was accelerated with both Newlands and Corsie timing the ball well and over the next 15 overs 147 runs was added to the score, before Newlands was finally out to the bowling of Parry for 59 off just 40 balls. John Corsie continued to bat well bringing up his second highest score ever of 150 off just 124 balls, before he finally fell to Marshall caught by Hastie, but by this time a highly competitive score had been posted.

RAF Kinloss showed determination in the field, in very poor conditions with a wet ball and soaking outfield, and young Parry returned very credible figure of 2 wickets for 13 runs, however the pick of the bowlers have to be Sargant and Pearmain who stuck to their task well. Buckie’s innings closed on 284 for 7 off their 45 overs.

When RAF Kinloss went into bat they were looking to chase down a large total and got of to a good start. Buckie without their principle fast bowler and a couple of the senior players of last season had to rely on their young players. Thomas and Pearmain started to look very good at the crease, but then D Creamer stepped up to the plate and bowled a great opening spell taking the wickets of Thomas (37), Pearmain (5), Pryce (7) and Hastie (13) before, due to being under 18 he had to be taken off for a rest. With the accurate bowling of S McDonald it left the way open for another young bowler Z Javid to try to spin RAF Kinloss out. In the wet the ball refused to spin, but with control and guile he managed to claim the scalps of Sargant (19) and Moreland (0). M Baker was brought in during Creamer’s rest period and took the wicket of Wood (3) and Marshall (5). However after his rest break Creamer came back into the attack and quickly took his fifth wicket, that being the very handy Shackelton (14) returning his first five wicket haul for the first team, and with excellent figures of 5 wickets for 36 runs. McDonald finished of the innings getting a well deserved wicket in reward for his accurate bowling. RAF Kinloss finished the game with 141 all out

It was an excellent game, played in great spirits if in horrible weather. Here is looking forward to next weeks game against RAF Lossiemouth at the LGP, which will be sponsored by James Jappy Painters.
