Buckie In Driving Seat

On Sunday Buckie sponsored by Planwell Roofing Supplies Ltd made the long trek to Castle Leod, Strathpeffer for a potential banana skin fixture against a rejuvenating Ross County side. The quaint features of this arboretum ground certainly give home advantage. Added to that Northern Counties swelled the crowd with their noisy followers hoping to see Buckie slip.

Buckie won the toss and asked their hosts to bat on the slippy artificial wicket dampened by a light shower at the start. Shakeel made an early breakthrough when Crabtree edged a delivery that ricocheted off the keeper standing up and pooped into the hands of Corsie at first slip.

Watson and Smart the laid the cornerstone of the County innings with a solid partnership broken when Corsie bowled Watson with a yorker on middle stump. Smart increased the pace and with the run rate approaching 4 an over, County passed the 100. Shakeel switched ends with the ball and accounted for Smart’s wicket when he bowled him.

With the departure of Smart the pace of the innings decreased and wickets fell regularly, but at the close, County still finished with a very respectable 158 runs.

Findlay and Corsie opened the Buckie reply and found Crabtree hitting the mark with the ball as is his norm. Both batsmen took it slowly and picked off the runs when they came. Shortly into the innings and when Corsie hit his 10 th run of the innings the crowed erupted to celebrate his achievement in scoring 10,000 runs for the Club. A feat that puts him in a unique group with his father and Bill Flett.

The runs were gathered slowly as first the fifty and then the century partnership was reached. The arrival of three figures perhaps saw County resign themselves to defeat and the remaining runs appeared to come a bit quicker. Boundaries were now more common it has to be said and without further ado the batsmen completed the task. With the scores tied, Corsie hit a six which won the game and recorded his 5 th century of the season. All in all a good days work with Corsie unbeaten on 100 and Findlay likewise on 46. Congratulations to Mr Corsie for another ton and another achievement.
