Keith Fail To Match Buckie

Both teams were missing regular members when Keith and Buckie took the field at Fife Park, Keith on Saturday in their Macallan league game which was kindly sponsored by Ian Stephen.

In the absence of Willie Findlay and Neil Duthie, Johnny Corsie and Eadie Walls opened the innings after Keith had opted to field first on winning the toss.

Helped by some poor ground fielding and catching, the pair put on 122 for the first wicket at a rate of 4 runs per over. Corsie was the more dominant partner scoring 70 and was first to go caught by Ewan off the bowling of Webster after a juggling act worthy of any circus. Walls played an innings reminiscent of his late father Archie who opened the batting in the 50’s and early 60’s with his runs coming almost entirely in singles. When he was finally out stumped off the bowling of Dey he had contributed a useful 36. Last week’s centurion Daniel Walls played some classy strokes, but having reached 21 departed in the same manner as uncle Eadie. Anthony Wilson scored 17 without, unusually for him, not finding the boundary, when he was adjudged LBW and it was left to Guy Lindsay and Tahir Shakeel to round off the innings and bring the total to a healthy 186 for 4. Graham Dey was the pick of the home bowlers taking 3 for 21.

Buckie got the best of starts with the ball when Sean McDonald shattered the stumps of Stables in the first over. With the scoreboard showing 21, Mcdonald struck again having McWilliam caught smartly behind by Curran. No need for the usual question “Where’s Terry?” on this occasion. The partnership between Dey and Green was promising for Keith and they were keeping up with the asking rate. Much to the annoyance of Dey, he was given out LBW when the total was 66 and he himself had made 46. It was a really good innings by the Keith top batsman. His removal from the crease ended Keith’s hopes and Anthony ‘Rooser’ Wilson helped himself to a further 5 wickets sealing the points when McDonald took a confident catch. Wilson finished with the excellent figures of 6 for 14, Sean McDonald took 2 for 16 and Tahir Shakeel the remaining wicket since Keith were reduced to 10 men when one of their players walked off when they were fielding.

It is now 6 wins out of 6 and Buckie are out on their own at the top of the league table.

Thanks again to Ian Stephen for sponsoring this match.

Next weekend Buckie are at home to Highland and the match will be sponsored by Buckie Inshore Fish Selling. See you there.
