Buckie March Over The Highland

A Highland team of 9 players called at the LGP on Saturday for the Macallan league match sponsored by Alistair and Marjory Ingram. Many close and tense matches have taken place between the two sides in recent years, but with a player deficit this was unlikely to be the case on this occasion.

Highland won the toss and chose to bowl against Findlay and E Walls. The opening overs went for fours, but bowlers Nixon and Goodwin found the right pace for the slow wicket and tied things up. Frustration got the better of Findlay who chased a wide one from Goodwin and spooned a catch to backward point.

Catto found a low one to beat and bowl E Walls and with the score on 48 and half the overs gone D Walls edged Cato behind to the keeper.

Corsie and Wilson then added 91 runs in 15 overs to put the meat onto the bones of the Buckie innings. Judicious use was made of the inevitable gaps in the field and the odd boundary was thrown in for good measure. Wilson went for a season’s best 42 when Goodwin returned to bowl and nipped one back just clipping the top of middle. Corsie hit Nixon for 6 over midwicket to bring up his fourth consecutive half century.

A few overs later a repeat shot saw the Buckie skipper bowled by the same bowler. The ball may have stayed low somewhat. Corsie scored 66 runs.

Lindsay and Newlands saw Buckie to the interval without further loss and the score stood at 183 for 5 when the players retired to enjoy the Fiona Walls tea.

The Highland players who earned their crust were Catto, Goodwin and Nixon who shared the wickets between them.

Highland score 5 in reply before Wilson struck bowling Nixon with a stock delivery just nipping back. Flett edged McDonald onto his leg then the stumps when the score was 21.

Deepak and McKinnon looked as though they might have something to offer, but Shakeel got the better of Deepak finding a thin edge that carried through to the keeper.

Catto was beaten by a Newlands delivery that failed to rise on its way through to the stumps. The hitherto solid looking McKinnon give Baker a simple catch at cover from the bowling of E Walls and Schofield stood for too long outside his crease giving Findlay the easiest of stumpings off the same bowler.

Outram was beaten by Shakeel and bowled and Graham tried to pull a Walls legside delivery, but succeeded in hitting the ball straight behind and into the keeper’s gloves and Highland were all out for 73

Eadie Walls triumphed on the slow wicket and left the field with 3 wickets to his name, Shakeel had two and the others all had one each.

An easy victory on the day then and one which keeps Buckie ahead of he pack in the title race. Thanks to Alistair and Marjory Ingram for sponsoring this match.

Next weekend Buckie travel to Forres on Saturday for the Macallan fixture sponsored by Buckie Inshore Fish Selling and on Sunday RAF Kinloss return to the LGP for Round 2 of the KO Cup with the tie sponsored by James & Rose Miller. See you there.
