KO Cup Final

Castle Park, Fochabers
Weather: Drizzle all day

Corsie Ton But Huntly Take Cup

Buckie sponsored by George C McKenzie tackled Huntly in the final of the Nosca KO Cup at Fochabers on Sunday. The weather was not favourable and the game was played under a veil of drizzle at the Castle Park ground.

Huntly won the toss and asked Buckie to bat. An excellent start was made by the coast team and 52 runs were added in quick time by Findlay and Corsie before a mix up saw both batsmen at the same end. Findlay fell on his sword and departed.

D Walls failed to score in his visit to the middle and was caught at midwicket after mistiming a pull from Morrison. Corsie and Wilson took a grip of the bowling and pushed on making runs at a good rate and the 100 mark was passed in the 17 th over in which Wilson was also bowled by Mearns for 20.

Corsie moved up a gear and recorded his half century. Newlands tried to guide a Morrison delivery through slips but spooned up a simple catch to first instead. Lindsay manned the crease as Corsie made the final push and the score moved on to 137 when Lindsay failed to complete a second run and was run out.

E Walls stayed with the skipper to the last over but failed to see it through and was bowled by Allan. Aware that Corsie was stuck in the nineties, Duthie got a couple of quick singles and with the penultimate ball of the innings John Corsie hit a boundary four that saw yet another century racked up.

The Buckie innings closed at 176 for 6 with the skipper standing undefeated at 103.

Buckie started well and Haasbroek survived a first over chance and more miraculously a run out attempt as Huntly searched for runs. Haasbroek eventually fell caught by Corsie at first slip off Newlands after top edging onto his tin hat. Barry Mearns never looked comfortable at the crease and a half hearted pull was caught at midwicket by D Walls to give Newlands his second wicket.

Massie was then trapped LBW by Creamer and Huntly were 73 for 3 after 12 overs.

Botha partnered by K Rough buckled down and saw Huntly home without further loss and the game concluded in the 24 th over. Rough finished on 38 with Botha on 92. His innings was controlled and faultless.

Wilson aside, the Buckie bowlers never really troubled the Huntly batsmen albeit Newlands and Creamer shared the wickets.

Botha was surprisingly named Man of the Match for his 92 runs. Corsie’s innings carried more weight for many.

Thanks to George C McKenzie for sponsoring this match.

Next weekend Buckie take on Huntly again on Saturday at the LGP in the league match sponsored by Buckie United FC and on Sunday make the long trip to Strathpeffer for the re-arranged league match against Ross County sponsored by Planwell Roofing Supplies Ltd. See you there.
