A pre-season report for 1911 suggested that the Club's prospects for the season were very bright. A pitch had been laid out in the Public Park at considerable cost and there was considerable interest in the Club with several new members having joined. The Club was a member of the Banff and Morayshire Junior Cricket Association and had also entered the Morayshire Junior League. The former had been presented with a cup by Mr Herd, Jeweller, Keith for competition on cup tie principles. As is shown later the optimism is not misplayed.
The season began with a friendly against Buckie HG School and W A Donald was in form immediately taking 4 wickets for 0 runs and scoring 47 not out. Details were:
Buckie 111 for 9 Buckie HG School 32
League business began at Fochabers were Buckie player T S Pringle made his debut on a cricket field 27 years ago. It was not a winning anniversary as can be seen from the match details below:
1911 This league match was played at Fochabers on Saturday. Buckie won the toss and had first lease of a really good wicket, although somewhat soft. The batting was of a weak nature on both sides, the bowlers holding the upper hand throughout. Bowling for Fochabers, Jas webster had 4 wickets for 22 runs; W Morrison 2 for 10; C Ross 4 for 1. Bowling for Buckie, W A Donald had 4 wickets for 12 runs; J Moar 0 for 11; J Little 2 for 13; J Hosie 0 for 11; E Newton 4 for 4. Buckie will have to improve in fielding, their display in this respect being far from flattering. It may be remarked that it is 27 years since Mr T S Pringle (one of the Buckie players) made his debut on a Fochabers cricket field. The detailed scores are as follows:- |
