The first cricket match at the new Public Park was played on 27 June 1896 and the teams Buckie Union and Cullen certainly did not set a high standard to follow. The home side totalled only 15 and Cullen who were reported as being "2 men short at fielding and 3 at the wicket" could manage only 5 runs.
In the return match on the Links at Cullen, the home side fared better scoring 40 but Buckie secured a draw being 4 for 7 when time was up. G Stage 2 and W Henderson 2 not out were the Union run scorers.
1897 and 98 were more blank years for cricket in the town.
1899 saw the revival of Buckie Cricket Club and it had, according to reports, a pretty extensive membership. The Vice Captain's team defeated the Captain's team by 38 runs to 31. The Captain J Yuill was a more than useful bowler as can be seen from the match details of the game at Fochabers on July 12:
