End of Season Do
Bill & Eddie Bow Out In Style

This will go down as one of, if not the best, Annual Awards Night the Club has held. Terry Curran takes the plaudits for a putting together a great evening centred around Bill Flett's retiral from playing after 50 years.

Players of the past turned out to mark the occasion and speeches by Eddie Corsie, Birnie Sutherland, Bill Jaffrey and Bill Hope all paid tribute to Bill and highlighted his contribution to Buckie CC and Nosca as well as amusing the gathering with light hearted anecdotes.

The home changing room at the pavilion will be named after Bill and his peg will be marked with a commemorative plaque. Bill was presented with a framed certificate of his statistics and achievements along with a crystal rosebowl. At the conclusion of the presentation Bill was given a standing ovation.

During his career Bill played over 1000 games for Buckie and is currently the highest run accumulator with 18,309 to his name. His efforts behind the stumps saw him take 688 catches and claim 193 stumpings.

Numerous awards have come his way both within the Club and from Nosca for batting and wicketkeeping and he was award the Macallan Achievement Award in 1992 for his outstanding contribution to north cricket.

Bill cites the highlight of his career as beating Huntly in the final of the Scottish Small Clubs Cup in 1995.

Another member with 50 years service to the Club is President Eddie Corsie who will stand down at the end of the year. Eddie was the consummate all rounder and can boast 11,711 runs and 591 wickets not to mention 236 catches in very safe hands. Similarly Eddie has swept the board in terms of trophies for batting and bowling and he was awarded the Macallan Achievement Award in 2002.

On the night both men were presented with crystal rosebowls and certificates detailing their achievements.

For the season just concluded, the players and members had every reason to celebrate with both the Macallan Championship and the Reserve Championship being won by Buckie.

John Corsie dominated batting in the north this season and with 1394 runs to his name he won the Club and League batting trophies as well as both Player of the Year trophies as well as collecting the match ball for a hat-trick..

Anthony Wilson did likewise with the ball and won Club and League bowling trophies just to emphasise Buckie's dominance in the north game.

Young Zahid Javed won the 2nd XI Player of the Year after impressive performances with the ball and he has the potential to be the next Colin Thomson.

Dwayne Creamer and Mark Tait won the junior awards for achievement and most promising player respectively.

Mike Baker won the Captain's Cup for outstanding contribution to the Club.

Congratulations to all concerned.

The Nosca dinner is on Saturday 28 October at the Mansionhouse Hotel, Elgin. More silverware will be collected there and will Daniel Walls be the Junior Player of the Year. All will be revealed at the dinner. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Bill Flett or any other member. The Macallan is sure to be flowing.
